Our Civil War Forum Inaugural Trip

Thirty-seven hardy Forum members, led by Civil War and Philadelphia historian Andy Waskie, participated in our first trip to Philadelphia, on October 17, 2009. We were privy to the treasures at the Union League Club, visited the graves of many of the Union's heroes at Laurel Hill Cemetery, and had the opportunity to see a rare collection of Civil War artifacts at the G.A.R. Museum. Add to this, a fabulous lunch at the 1860's vintage McGillin's restaurant. A wonderful time was had by all. Just a note about the dessert: The cake, decorated with a likeness of Abraham Lincoln, inscribed with his words, "….a new birth of freedom", described the group's feelings about this inaugural trip.

Now that this trip is complete, we are looking forward to the May 13th- 17, 2009 trip to Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. If you wish to participate, send a $100 check to Howard Rosenthal, 81-15 Surrey Place, Jamaica, NY 11432, to hold your spot for the trip.
